The term SPA originates from the name of the Belgian city of Spa (in French Spa), located in the province of Liege (Wallonia), which in the Middle Ages was famous for its healing waters. According to one version, spa is an abbreviation of the Latin expression "sanum per aqua" or "sanitas pro aqua", meaning "health through water", although some believe this is incorrect. According to another version - the key beats a fountain in the very town, the military Romans, who discovered the healing waters, and so called "espa" - "fountain" and "Aquae Sepadonae" springs of carbon dioxide from thousands of bubbles. There is another opinion: perhaps the essence lies in the word "spargere" - "to bubble". Nowadays spa vacations are very prevalent compared to conventional vacations, which is only true that they cost a lot more. Popular not only full-fledged vacations at spa resorts, but also specialized spa tours and even specialized spa programs of a few days or even one day in the spas. Relaxing after a hard year's work is just as important as after one day's work, to get back into the never-ending cycle of work life with renewed vigor. Spa services and spa programs are different in their direction, duration and location. Firstly, there are spa programs directly at the thermal springs resorts that provide all types of spa procedures using thermal waters for: medical treatment and rehabilitation, aesthetic well-being and recreation. As a rule, a stay here lasts from two to several weeks. These spas provide the most comprehensive list of spa treatments, including drinking and dietary meals, as well as fitness classes. Spa procedures include: baths of different nature, showers of different effects, baths, saunas, thermal wraps of different compositions, aromatherapy, hydromassage, lymph drainage, dry massages of all kinds, tanning and the cosmetic procedures themselves. Second, there are spa hotels, aimed exclusively at one-day or multi-day or long-term recreation. These may be spa clubs or hotels also directly at the spa resorts. But do not forget that such spa services can also be "artificial" in nature, namely, a vacation with the organization of a similar stay, but in places far from the spa resorts or resorts in general. That is, such a vacation can be arranged for yourself for a weekend after a hard work week in almost any city. Many beauty salons now offer separate spa treatments or spa programs - just some elements of spa relaxation. You may be offered specialized spa cruises or specific spa programs, say for weight loss, which include a clear list of spa procedures, designed for at least a week's stay and existing to solve a specific problem, not just for general relaxation. Today the term "spa" is also directly related to physiotherapy and combines all methods of treatment and physiological impact on human body of water natural resources of the Earth: thalassotherapy, balneotherapy - hydrotherapy, mud treatment. Balneotherapy - Latin balneum "bath, bathing", Greek therapeia "treatment" - includes the use of mineralized waters for treatment, prevention and rehabilitation therapy. Thalassotherapy - Greek thalassa "sea" - branch of medical science about the effect of the sea, its products (algae, mud, water, salts, plants, etc.) and climate on the human body for treatment, prevention and rehabilitation therapy. Pelotherapy - Greek pelos "clay, mud" - mud treatment, application of mud of different origin and mud-like substances for treatment, prevention and rehabilitation therapy. The spa procedures aim to intensify the metabolism and improve the lymph and blood stream, thus removing toxins and waste from the body. The skin becomes toned and soft, glowing with health. But at the same time, the whole body feels a rush of strength and energy, because the body cleanses itself and reduces excess weight. This is a real boon for the slothful: while having fun you can also lose weight. Spas now also include waxing, manicure, pedicure, hair treatments, aromatherapy, meditation, and yoga. Thermal-based cosmetics are particularly popular.
